Since my short leave of absence, due to my wonderful wife giving birth to our son, I have been disconnected from society. During the late night feedings, and lack of contact with the outside world for his first six weeks, here is a Monster’s dozen of websites that I have started to look at on a regular basis.
DudeIWantthat.com – DudeIWantthat is an incredible website. Every day they post unique items and giveaways that cover all aspects of life. If you have ever been interested in human gills this is the place to find out about them. There are items for the outdoorsman to the geek, and everything in between. It is a great place to start preparing for the zombie apocalypse.
80stees.com – I found 80stees while looking for Masters of the Universe shirts. As I continue to dig through the website I found a large part of my childhood. They cover Cartoons such as He-man, G.I. Joe, Transformers, TMNT; movies like the Goonies, Christmas Vacation, Ghostbusters; TV shows including Saved by the Bell, Muppets, and even video games and classic super hero shirts. One of the best aspects of the site is the Highlander Deals. There is an ever revolving assortment of clothing and accessories that drop a dollar every hour, until someone buys it. I have watched several $60 hoodies drop below $15. A new feature that they have added is the ability to pre-order shirts for a lower price to help fund the product so it can be made.
Superherostuff.com – I found superherostuff while looking for a Flash t-shirt for my oldest daughter. There is a huge amount of product for every hero and villain across the Marvel and DC universes, and at a reasonable price. If you are looking for a popular or obscure superhero shirt, this is the place to start.
Denofgeek.com – Denofgeek is a great place that collects all aspects of geekdom; Movies, TV, Comics, and games. There is up to date news and rumors, but what drew me to the website is the lists. There is a specific section for lists. They will rank games, movies, dig up forgotten shows and movies, look at an actor’s filmography, etc. They present so many different types of lists, it is fun to dig through their archives and find something that you never knew before, or something that totally outrages you (“There is no way this or that should be ranked so high!”).
Riptappareal.com – This is one of the most unique sites that I enjoy visiting. Each day they have three custom shirts from various artists for sale. You only have 24 hours to purchase the shirt for only $11. You can also go back and look through the graveyard and see custom art that is no longer available and kick yourself for not discovering it earlier.
Tecmobowlers.com – Tecmo Super Bowl for Nintendo is one of my favorite games ever. This website takes an in-depth look at the game and the players in it. Do you want to know why Lorenzo White would fumble every 7 carries or so? How about taking the Ultimate Tecmo challenge, or who was the last active player from the game? It is all here. You can also find shirts and hats with your favorite 8-bit logos. But maybe the coolest feature is the custom Nintendo Carts. Take teams from every era and put them against each other a Tecmo battle for the ages. In the past they have also carried carts with current NFL, and NCAA rosters, and sometimes offer R.B.I. Baseball with the current players.
Podcastone.com – They offer some of the best content as far as podcasts. There are thousands of hours of content to listen to. If you are a wrestling fan you can listen to Steve Austin, Jim Ross, Chris Jericho, Bill Goldberg, and, for MMA fans, Chael Sonnen. It is not only for sports fans, as there are shows geared toward comedy, women, and various TV Shows. You can also listen to daily episodes of the Adam Carolla Show. By far my favorite show is the Steve Austin Show and The Steve Austin Show Unleashed. He has guests from all walks of life, but listening to him sit down with his wife is hilarious. His interviews with many of wrestling’s legends make me miss the NWA and the days when I thought it was real.
Boredpanda.com – I recently came across this website when my wife sent me a link to an article there. There are a variety of different aspects to the site, but what I love most is the photography. There are hundreds of articles about some of the most beautiful places around the world. Some of my favorite are from Italy, Norway, and Finland.
Now that the Websites are out of the way, here is the video content that has kept me busy.
The Green Inferno (Release Date: 9/25/15) – I first read about this movie back in 2013. It intrigued me, and then I saw the trailer. It creeped me out and I knew I wanted to see it. But due to distribution difficulties and other issues, the release was put on hold for more than a year. At Comic Con, Eli Roth announce that the film was finally coming out. If you haven’t watched the trailers, go now.
Friends (Netflix) – Over the past two months my wife and I spent time re-watching Friends. After watching it as a teenager and then again as an adult, there is a big difference in the series. I think for most people, myself included, Joey was my favorite character, but as soon as we started watching, Chandler immediately stuck out. I think that he is the one person who seems normal, everyone else has an over the top trait to their character. I believe he is the most relatable, and the funniest. The series is defiantly worth going through again. In every episode you should watch for the one liners that Chandler delivers. I give it a 8 out of 10.
Vikings (History Channel)– If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, you should give Vikings a watch. There is a lot of brutality on the show, but there is some great character devolvement. It follows Ragnar Lodbrok (who I didn’t know really existed till watching the show) through his rise to become King. I have only watched the first two seasons, but there is something about the show that makes you want to watch more. There are many times after watching the end of one episode, I would have to watch the beginning of the next to see what happens. I give it a 8 out of 10.
House of Cards (Netflix)– I know I am late to the game with some of these shows, but I sat down and watched House of Cards season one, and it was amazing. There is an intense pace to the show. Everything that is done has a sense of urgency, and there is a purpose behind it. Kevin Spacey is superb. His is vicious and vengeful, but at the same time remains calm. He will destroy himself if it meant him gaining ground. Robin Wright and Kate Mara play off of him very well, and bring intrigue to each relationship. Corey Stoll drew me in to his character. There is something about him that makes him sympathetic and you want to see him succeed. Overall I give Season one a 9.5 out of 10.
Daredevil (Netflix)– From the first episode I was hooked. By the end of the 1st season I couldn’t wait for season two. It is like a 13 hour movie. I don’t know if there is a better show on. It is the perfect mixture of purpose and intensity behind the conversations, and wonderful actions sequences. There is never a dull moment in the show. There are times that two people will be having a conversation and they draw you in to listen intently and never miss a moment. Charlie Cox is Matt Murdock. This is the incarnation that fans have been waiting for. He takes the character to a whole new level. Vincent D’Onofrio plays Wilson Fisk in a new way. There are times you see him a sympathetic character, but as soon as you see that, you see the monster behind his eyes. It seem like every episode they name drop and have small hints to characters around the Marvel Universe that create several geek out moments. This is the best thing that Marvel has done.
If you counted then you will notice there are 13 things on the list, just like a baker’s dozen, a monster’s dozen is 13 because I just can’t stop myself.
